Job Description:

Responsible for the accurate and prompt transportation of specimens and supplies between various departments. Must promote a positive image of UCH with colleagues, clients and the community at all times. Ensures and maintains the confidentiality of patient information and other UCH business information in accordance with HIPAA and other compliance standards. Complies with the Code of Conduct and other established policies, including but not limited to compliance, quality and safety. Manages send-outs, packaging, transportation logs and daily reporting.

 

Processes specimens in preparation for testing. May include addition of fixatives, slide staining and/or organization of specimens, labeling of specimen containers and cassettes. Prepares and maintains inventory for reagents and supplies. Assures that stock is rotated appropriately by date. Places orders for replacements as needed. Performs computer requisition entry for requested lab testing. Processes send out tests to reference laboratory. Receives and accessions specimens for clinical testing. Inpatient and Outpatient.

 

Performs clerical duties such as filing, responding to phone inquiries and requesting computer reports. Prints, sorts, fax and deliver lab reports as scheduled or requested. Files copies of lab reports not included in the lab computer system and all test requisitions and physician orders. Retrieves lab reports from the appropriate filing systems for use in information inquiry and billing verification. Maintains inventory of general office and specimen processing supplies.

 

Performs light housekeeping duties to include, but not limited to: washing glassware, cleaning cupboards and drawers, defrosting/cleaning freezers and refrigerators and keeping counters and shelves organized and clutter free, and discarding garbage. And other duties as assigned.
